Change is Good

Hey everyone!

My name is Danielle incase you’ve forgotten. I know its been a while and I’m sure you’re wondering where I’ve disappeared to for the last month. Well It’s been all work and no play, a bit chaotic but in the best way possible.

With my last semester at community college coming to a close, I’ve been in overdrive trying to make sure It’s as perfect as can be. Not to mention that I also work retail J.Crew and intern at Harveys! Busy would be an understatement!

So many changes are in progress, preparing to move to San Francisco in late August, quitting my retail job, and starting a full time job! 🙉….I know let me explain! I’ve been interning at Harveys for nearly 5months, I’ve learned so much sometimes I can’t believe how far I’ve come. I must admit I never felt like an intern, I always made sure that my mindset was “Lets get down to business”, trying to remember that I was there to learn but also striving to be an asset to the team. Being in the office only twice a week has been difficult for me because when I do something I fully engage and put my life into it and I felt that it was challenging because with my busy schedule that was all the time I could offer. Luckily because I will be staying local in the summer, Harveys hired me on as a temporary Assistant Creative Coordinator!!! I am now an official member of the team!

Hello big girl job👋

Because I am committing to a full time job I will have to give up what has been my life for the past two years, my beloved J.Crew! It is going to be super hard not seeing my J.Crew family every week but I am very excited for what is in store for me.

As one door closes the next opens!

These photos were shot in Palm Springs for Harveys Summer Look-book! The Harvey’s team and I had the pleasure of working with Leslie (@Splendid_Rags)!!!

Linked below are the bags that are already on the website, the rest will be available on June 3rd!

Almost forgot to mention that I’m taking a summer sewing class 🙉 I’m super exited and can’t wait to dive right into it. I’ve been wanting to learn how to sew for a while now and have just been putting it off due to my never ending busy schedule. I’ll definitely keep you in the loop with how it all goes down!

OOTD: Gingham on Gingham

Hello Pink wall, its been a while!

Well, as announced on Instagram, I’ve got good news! So lets cut to the chase because I’m sure you’re eager to know whats going on.

After tons of waiting I finally heard back from schools and I am pleased to reveal that I will be attending San Francisco State University in the fall! Hello SF👋 Moving to San Francisco has always been a dream of mine and I cannot believe in just a few months I’ll be studying fashion there! Man have I been spoiled living at home, I’ve been attempting to learn how to cook so that when I leave I don’t starve. I’ve also been thinking about my closet and how its going to teleport itself up to the Bay area (yikes)…. lets not think about that just yet! I just can’t believe this is actually happening! When you’ve been talking about something for so long and it finally becomes a real plan not just something created in your imagination, its real, moving to SF in August WoW 🙉 I think Im still a little mind blow, wonder how long that will last!

Heres a crazy look that expresses my most excited emotions. You know when they tell you to let your clothes speak for you? Well my clothes are surely screaming with joy🙆👯

It’s crazy how things work themselves out, so don’t be discouraged if something doesn’t go as you planned. Things work out just the way they should, and almost like destiny everything that does and doesn’t happen in life will lead you along your path!

Work hard and stay positive!

OOTD: Spring Break in SF

It isn’t ever day that I wear all black, but when I do I feel like a real city girl!

San Francisco is such an incredible city, so full of character, so crowded, yet still relaxed. Everyone is always running from place to place but it seems as though everything is always moving steady, never rushed and I think thats what I love about it. You can be a busy city girl and in 15 minutes you can be along the bay feeling as calm as can be. And the little houses, so colorful with bold molding and vibrant colored walls. They may be little but they speak volumes!

Collection Collarless V-neck Wrap Coat: Jcrew

Boy Shirt in Cotton- Tencel oxford: Jcrew

Toothpick Jean in Black: Jcrew

Stormy Rain Boot: Jeffrey Campbell  (size up)

Mini MAC: Rebecca Minkoff

This coat is my current obsession and I wish Orange County weather would allow me to wear it more. If traveling to SF will mean this coat can make a debut, I guess a trip to SF it will be👍

Something I’ve learned in SF is that if its raining don’t bother doing your hair, throw it in a bun and call it a day. With the constant wind and rain it’ll be a wet mop covering your face if you don’t!

Can’t wait to visit again soon, and next time I’m there I might just be moving in!

After much contemplation, I’ve finally decided to do a Q&A!

It’s super hard keeping up with bloggers so I enjoy getting a little personal every once in a while so that you can get a better perspective on my point of view. Thank you again to all of those who submitted questions, I know I had said that this post would launch yesterday but WordPress deleted everything, anyhow…the show must go on!

Hope you enjoy!

Q: When are you moving to NYC?

A: Well if it were up to me, I’d be there right now! I’m currently wrapping up my third year in college, with two more to go. I hope to finish my bachelors degree and pack my bags for the East Coast! I have applied to numerous Summer internships in the city, still waiting to hear back, crossing my fingers! But until then the plan is to finish school, and start my career in NYC…what a dream✨

Q: What do you think of the fashion from Miami Vice?

A: Miami what??….ummm… let me look that up!

Screen Shot 2016-03-29 at 10.39.05 PM

So, Miami Vice was a television series in the 80’s, well known for its fashion. I would have to say that I always appreciate a suit, I think that a lot of fashion has resorted to more casual wear which saddens me. I enjoy how the main characters always seem to be elevated in their day to day wear! Overall I think that Miami Vice had good fashion for its era with high waisted trouser and not-so tailored suits, but hey the 80’s were the 80’s!

Q: Where do you gain fashion inspiration from?

A: I gain tons of inspiration from well known bloggers, The Blonde Salad, Barefoot Blonde, Gal Meets Glam, Bryan Boy   , Song of Style, and many others. I also enjoy getting inspiration from street style looks. I make sure that I observe, get ideas, but also remain true to myself. It’s important to make sure that you don’t lose your aesthetic while enjoying that of others!

Pinterest and Tumblr are amazing sources of street style and architectural inspiration for me! I love gaining inspiration from architecture, I never limit myself to just apparel, you shouldn’t either!

Q: What is TheColorfulPrep’s favorite color to wear?

A: Oh gosh! I knew this one was coming, hmm! I would have to say that I unconditionally love all colors, even those that aren’t bright and cheerful, I’m sure you’re aware of that. If I had to pick just one color I would say PINK! I think pink is such a statement, it’s a show stopping color. So ladylike and fun!

Q: What is your favorite handbag at the moment?

A: EEEEK😬 I have had this long time crush on the Chanel Boy Bag, so I’d have to say its my current favorite! I just think it’s such a classic statement! When its love, you just know!

I love the denim ones, they’re so unique! One day my friends, one day!

The close second is the Celine Nano Luggage tote! If you haven’t noticed I’m kind of cross body obsessed and I don’t think thats changing anytime soon. I love how this little Celine is structured and a shrunken version of the larger totes! Mini is always better!

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 9.06.03 AM

Q: What are your top 5 favorite brands?

A: Here are my top 5 favorite brands in no particular order!

1) Gucci: I love where the brand is headed, everything looks so wild and crazy and I am just blown away! I’ll take one of everything please! p.s. that suede blue cross body is to die for! Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 10.13.12 AM

2) Kate Spade: They always know how to maintain a ladylike Blair Waldorf aesthetic and that deserves a major applause! I love all of these prints, the coat on the right and the loafers👌👌Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 3.13.14 PM

3) J.Crew: I have always felt this unconditional love for J.Crew! Everything is always so fun, bold, and empowering! The brand started to give off these “I’m lost in the shuffle” vibes for a little while there but I’m so glad that its headed back to where it used to be! Very excited for whats coming! Look at those shoes, YES J.Crew, YES!

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 10.26.53 AM

4) Chanel: What is more classic than Chanel? This eyeshadow, if only I could rock that everyday! Needless to say, everything is looking amazing as always!

5) Prada: These bold stripes were such a hit for me. I also love the earrings! Prada has a special place in my heart! The first designer bag I purchased all on my own was my little mini gold Prada! I don’t regret that purchase, one little bit!

Q: What is your favorite style of sock?

A: Well, I normally wear no-show socks and I’m sure thats not the kind of answer you were hoping for! I kind of want to jump on the socks with Birkenstocks trend because I think its so dorky and cute! I also enjoy when people wear socks with heels, but it has to be done right😁. Anyhow, I do like socks that hit a little above the ankle that are a crazy print.

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 7.03.27 PM

Q: What are your favorite Instagram accounts?

A: Bloggers aside (I already mentioned them above)

In no particular order, I love @AnaNewYork, @DChaussee  , @Splendid_Rags , @DeerChristian_ , and @Space.Ram ! I love my Instagram community, everyone is super unique and I love all the creative minds out there, keep up the good work!

Q: Best photo editing tools?

  1. A Color Story:  I don’t know how I functioned without it! There are tons of filters and it allows you to brighten and saturate and crop and just do about anything you could possibly want to do and I just love it so much! And its Free!
  2. Adobe Photoshop: I am quite an amateur but I will sit at my screen clicking every button until I get pleasing results! It is such a helpful tool and I can’t wait to learn more!
  3. iPhoto: Super basic but it does the job! I use iPhoto mainly for its ability to retouch blemishes because lets be honest we love to pretend we are perfect.

You made it out alive! I hope I didn’t bore you.

You deserve this🏆 and this💐 and probably this too🎂!

Let me know what you thought, I’d love to do it again if you’d like that too!

Going Places ✈️

Traveling can be quite an ordeal when you insist on bringing your entire wardrobe along for the journey. This Harveys Weekender is my current go-to bag for getaways! It allows me to bring all the essentials and much more. It fits perfectly on top of my Delsey carry-on suitcase which is ideal when running through the airport. The weekender also comes with a long adjustable strap so you can sling it across your body if you so desire.

Travel Tips:

✈️ If you’re going somewhere cold, always wear your coat! It’ll allow for more space in your suitcase for shoes and bags😉

✈️ Wear something comfortable but don’t forget to look cute, you never know who you might run into at the airport!

✈️ When purchasing luggage, make sure you pick a suitcase with four wheels on the bottom. It’ll be a life saver, trust me! Also, if you’re willing to do so, purchase your luggage as a set including different sizes of the same luggage style so you’ll always be matching!

✈️ Bring a mini purse so that you have easy access to your passport, credit cards, and photo id so you’ll have everything right at your fingertips.

✈️ Snacks Snacks Snacks! You never want to have a grumbling stomach mid flight, Kind Bars are my snack of choice while traveling!

✈️  If you have the space, bring an extra pair of shoes in your carry on so you have the flexibility of changing up your outfit!

✈️ Make sure to have a phone charger and headphones in your carry on so you can tune out the crying baby a few rows behind you without draining your battery. IMG_5297IMG_5279IMG_5276IMG_5292IMG_5318IMG_5283IMG_5314IMG_5275IMG_5270

OOTD: Black & White

Black is associated with power, elegance, and mystery. Black is mysterious and gives off a sense of fear of the unknown. The color usually has a negative connotation however, it can also resemble strength and authority. It is considered to be very formal, elegant, and a prestigious color, hence “black tie”. Black can also provide a feeling of perspective and depth.

White is associated with light, goodness, and innocence. It can be considered the color of perfection. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation. White can represent a successful beginning.

It’s good to find a Balance! Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing remember that just like colors, everything must work together. It may not always work the way you’d like it to but if you keep trying you’ll get it right!

These shots were from my recent trip to San Fransisco which was incredible as always. I can’t seem to get enough of the architecture in SF!

Heart Eyes

This wall came up on my Instagram feed and I instantly turned into the heart eyed emoji(😍)

This amazing wall popped up recently in an alley behind the Pygmy Hippo Shoppe in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles. Painted by the lovely Chris Uphues  ! He also has a lovely collection of pins, patches, keychains, and more featuring cutes little characters!

This wall is a little reminder to always see the good in everything. There is love and happiness within us we just have to allow it to come through and exude outwards to our peers. This brings me to the main focus of this post, aside from this amazing wall that I highly recommend you check out if you’re in the area. Lets talk about optimism and how it can change the way you live!

I wanted to touch upon positivity and optimism. Two qualities that I have recently implemented into my everyday routine. It’s easy to be negative, but in order to be positive we must implement optimism. Seeing everything from a more optimistic prospective will change the way you interact with others and simply improve your state of happiness. Not everything will go your way but everything happens just the way it should so don’t give up, keep moving forward and things will improve.

I always tell myself, “better things are ahead”
